Eagle Point Nursing Home – Facts and Information

Perhaps you are not familiar with the Nursing Home Compare website administered by Medicare.gov. Nursing Home Compare is designed to allow the public to understand certain information about nursing homes so consumers can make wise choices when deciding where they may want to put a loved one who needs rehabilitation or long term care services. While the information contained on Nursing Home Compare is not perfect (see our previous post regarding some facilities intentionally misleading the public using the website), it is a great tool to allow you to see a snapshot of a facility’s staffing, health inspections, and quality measures. This information is available at http://www.medicare.gov/nursinghomecompare/search.html.

EAGLE POINT (Parkersburg, WV)

Eagle Point is a 164 bed facility. The overall rating for Eagle Point is only one star (much below average). Its health inspections are equally bad, only 1 star (much below average). Inspections by State and/or Federal investigators have found 26 health deficiencies (as compared to an average U.S. facility having only 6.8 deficiencies). The most recent annual inspection conducted by the WV Office of Facility Licensure and Certification (OHFLAC) found various significant problems, such as failure to implement policies that prevent mistreatment, neglect, or abuse of residents or theft of resident property and the failure to prevent new bed sores (also called pressure sores, pressure ulcers or decubitus ulcers) or heal existing bed sores. Staffing at Eagle Point was also lower than both the National and the West Virginia averages for registered nurse hours per patient per day.
