Perhaps you are not familiar with the Nursing Home Compare website administered by Medicare.gov. Nursing Home Compare is designed to allow the public to understand certain information about nursing homes so consumers can make wise choices when deciding where they may want to put a loved one who needs rehabilitation or long term care services. While the information contained on Nursing Home Compare is not perfect (see our previous post regarding some facilities intentionally misleading the public using the website), it is a great tool to allow you to see a snapshot of a facility’s staffing, health inspections, and quality measures. This information is available at http://www.medicare.gov/nursinghomecompare/search.html.
TYGART CENTER AT FAIRMONT CAMPUS
Tygart Center at Fairmont Campus is a 119 bed facility in Fairmont, West Virginia, owned by Genesis Healthcare. While most quality indicators are positive for Tygart Center, Staffing was lower than both the National and the West Virginia averages for registered nurse hours per patient per day and licensed practical nurse hours per patient per day. Inspections by State and/or Federal investigators have found 16 health deficiencies (as compared to an average U.S. facility having only 6.8 deficiencies). The most recent annual inspection conducted by the WV Office of Facility Licensure and Certification (OHFLAC) found various significant problems, such as failure to have enough nurses to care for every resident in a way that maximizes the resident’s well-being and failure to have procedures to prevent and minimize infections.
